I want to congratulate Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins in winning the Stanley Cup. More importantly, it’s almost the middle of June and thank goodness hockey season is FINALLY over.
Like most people in this town, once the Canucks are out of contention, hockey quickly becomes an afterthought, especially with the beautiful weather we’ve been enjoying in Vancouver. And I think most would agree the NHL season is too long as it is.
I didn’t pay close attention to the finals but listening to the TEAM everyday on the drive home gave me a good sense of how the series have unfolded. The story that caught my attention was one Marian Hossa. I don’t think he, in his wildest dreams, envisioned a re-match of last year’s final, let alone losing both cup finals. Poetic justice, perhaps. So much for giving up a long term lucrative contract to stay in Pittsburgh in order to sign a 1 year deal with Detroit, the team he thought would give him the best chance to win. Now, unless Hossa is willing to give up money in order to stay with a winner, his best chance of winning a Stanley Cup may have just passed him by.
